Do you meditate before a painting or do you consider the painting itself a form of meditation?
Judith Chantler replied:
No I don't meditate in any formal way at least. I probably meant contemplated here. I don't usually have any idea what I'm going to paint. I just start painting and try not to push what is happening in any direction. Like I didn't plan on painting Two Worlds Mandala but I see that's what it was and where it came from. I'm giving all power to the soul to speak. You could say that's meditating but I'm not sure. It's fun anyway as I get to see something I never imagined.

Thanks Sally. This was a very quick, direct painting following a meditation of the Two Worlds painting and all its meaning. I don't remember that it came with much information. Nothing I can really convey with words. I see the doorway from Two Worlds which is symbolic of the doorway to the unconscious and held much fear for me at the time, is now in this painting much lighter and less fearful. Beyond all the movements and changes appearing in the foreground (of our lives as well) lies the Oneness. All the changes and difficulties (we experience in our lives) are being held in greater arms and just coming and going, but teaching as well.

So nice. Wish you would have included a description. I enjoy reading about your feelings and experiences when you created the piece. -L/F -Sally Porter Meta Expressionist
